Critical Care Monitoring

Develop your knowledge and understanding of critical care monitoring in horses. This is a one-part course that can also be taken as part of the Equine critical care course bundle. This module looks at useful equipment, basic monitoring, blood work, the ventilated patient, and foal sepsis, including:
Basic monitoring – behaviour, heart rate, respiration rate, mucous membranes, rectal temperature, defecation, urination, water and food intake, medication, auscultation of abdomen, reflux, and catheter site.
Blood work – blood samples, blood gas analysis, and other monitoring.
The ventilated patient – blood gas analysis, end-tidal CO2, Hb saturation with O2, tidal volume, respiration rate, and normal values.
Foal sepsis – diagnosis, other tests, and scoring systems.
