Epilepsy in cats and dogs: Epilepsy is a common neurological presentation in general practice. Correct diagnosis of epilepsy in cats and dogs can be challenging and this is paramount for management of the case and owner’s expectations. In this course we will discuss the different pathologies that can be misinterpreted as seizure activity and how to try to collect the right information in order to lead the investigations. Epilepsy aetiologies and treatment, which include drugs available and recent developments will be discussed in depth, as well as emergency treatment in cases of cluster seizures and status epilepticus. Video-based cases will be available in order to discuss the neuroanatomical localisation, differential diagnosis and recommended tests.
Epilepsy in cats and dogs will explore these topics over 5 modules:
- MODULE 1. Introduction to the epileptic seizure
- MODULE 2. Pathologies that can mimic seizure activity
- MODULE 3. Differential diagnoses and investigations
- MODULE 4. Seizure management- Medications available for seizure management in dogs
- MODULE 5. Emergency treatment of Canine Status Epilepticus
- MODULE 6. Clinical cases
- MODULE 7. Final MCQ exam
