Jo Hinde going on about rabbits again!

I am very pleased to be able to help fellow RVN in her new venture by adding the press release below as a blog post. I think it is important for us RVN’s to work together and help each other as much as we can. Please take a minute to read about Jo’s new venture below.

LagoLearn – providing rabbit specific veterinary CPD.

Rabbits are currently the 3rd most popular pet in the UK, yet the most misunderstood. Many live on their own, in cramped enclosures with limited chance to exercise and fed an unsuitable diet. All this leads to a life of misery and health problems and a country full of rescue centres bursting to the seams with bunnies needed new homes. On top of this, they are classed as an ‘exotic’ species which means they have specific health and husbandry needs that need to be met. This however, also means that many veterinary professionals do not get much teaching time on exotics when they are students.

LagoLearn was formed to help try to re-address this balance and provide rabbit specific training to all veterinary professionals, including those who are still students and those who have already qualified. We are proud to be working with Supreme Petfoods as our main sponsor as they share our passion to improve rabbit welfare through education.

Our aim is to raise the standard of rabbit care in line with that of pet dogs and cats, both in the UK and Internationally. We do this by providing a selection of training days that cover a wide range of rabbit related topics, from husbandry and diet to anaesthesia, dentistry, surgery and more. These events comprise a range of lectures, small group teaching, case studies and practical / problem solving workshops that are presented by experts in their field. This enables the delegates to receive the most up to date information and protocols as well as help them become more confident as they hone their skills.

Our next event is on 13th October 2016 at the beautiful Easthampstead Park in Berkshire. This is one of our ‘Rabbit Roundup’ day courses which concentrates on rabbit care in general practice. The day will provide 6hrs of certificated CPD starting off with an overview of rabbit veterinary care before digging deeper into anaesthesia, dentistry and nursing. Some parts of the day will be split into 2 streams – one for vets and the other for nurses and animal support staff, which allows our experts to provide targeted information to small groups.
