Purina encourages vet nurses to start collaborative conversations at BVNA congress

Purina® Petcare, a gold sponsor at BVNA Congress on 7th-9th October, is supporting veterinary nurses to have more collaborative nutritional conversations with their clients. The team on stand A2 will present a series of bite-sized talks on the topic with lots of practical hints and tips. Also on offer are cupcakes and refreshments for all, as well as a competition where every day one lucky veterinary nurse can win a spa day for two.

Laura Hughes, Veterinary Nurse Development Manager for Purina UK and Ireland says she is excited to speak to veterinary nurses about the potential to support their development, “All of our CPD talks on the stand are certificated and each 20-minute session builds to produce a comprehensive suite of content on making nutritional recommendations. It’s the ideal complementary top up to all the wonderful CPD available at congress.”

She continued, “Sometimes nutritional conversations can be difficult, especially around weight management, but behavioural science has given us so many new ways in which to approach those to bring the pet owner on board in a positive way so they can be part of the solution. We’ll be sharing more about those evidence-based approaches. To support nurse clinics further, we’ll be demonstrating our tool kits in the area of gastrointestinal care and weight management, so nurses can see what is available to them.”

The Purina team will also be showcasing the UK Vet Centre portal (https://vetcentre.purina.co.uk/), which hosts the Purina Academy of nutrition e-learning, as well as the Purina Institute’s CentreSquare resource, which shares experiences and tips from highly respected clinicians and nutritionists of how they integrate nutrition practically into their own consultations. Both will be profiled on the stand, giving veterinary nurses more information about the studies, articles, communication aids, and webinars that are available for free from both sites.

Libby Sheridan, Purina Scientific Affairs Manager UK & Ireland says BVNA Congress is an eagerly anticipated event in the veterinary calendar, “We always look forward to catching up with nurses from practice and finding out about the ways in which they are moving veterinary nursing forwards to improve animal health and welfare. Our recent renal masterclasses for nurses demonstrated just how much nurses were contributing in terms of clinical expertise and owner support for chronically ill patients. It really illustrated the generosity of our nursing professionals and the power of collaboration, with many nurses in the session sharing hints and tips on the management of these vulnerable patients and also how they educated and supported their owners. It’s really exciting to see the quality of individuals we have in nursing teams and to hear their insights.”

Delegates can visit Purina on stand A2 during the congress to enter the spa prize draw, enjoy a cupcake and coffee, or simply catch up with one of the team to find out how they can be supported in practice.
